Both my husband and I have ipods but was wondering if it is possible to have 2 seperate itunes on one PC? I don't want his (rubbish taste!) in music on my ipod and he doesn't want mine! But we can't seem to seperate the two sets of albums/playlists etc.
Any help would be great!

I did this by setting up another user and then loading Itunes again onto that user. This seems to work with no problems. I'm running on Windows XP.0

My wife and I each bought an ipod shuffle last week and downloaded itunes.
Several cd's were introduced to LIBRARY/MUSIC,
then in the PLAYLISTS, new folders were made, each with our Christian names as folder names and then all other folders in PLAYLIST were deleted. (Mind you, PARTY SHUFFLE would not go so it was left alone.)
Once our individual folders were in place, we went back to LIBRARY/MUSIC.
To select the tracks you want, clic on the first one. It will highlight (go blue). Assuming you want the complete disc, hold the SHIFT key and at the same time, put your finger on the DOWN arrow till you reach the end of your particular selection, all of which will now be highlighted.
With your curser on the highlighted area, drag the selection to YOUR name. You will then have acquired your chosen songs/tunes from the LIBRARY
You next step is to transfer them to the ipod. Attach that. A new section will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Ensure AUTOFILL is ticked.
Then tick REPLACE ALL ITEMS WHEN AUTOFILLING that way, everything is refreshed each time you install new songs/tunes and any you wish to delete are removed. (often there are a few tunes on a CD that you don't like)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Close Itunes completely
Hold down Shift and click the itunes icon then keep holding down the shift key
You will be given the option of Choosing a different Itunes library or creating a new one. You will be able to choose a place to create the new library on your computer
From then on you can switch between libraries by doing the same and clicking Choose Library and then clicking on the .itl file in the folder that contains the Itunes library you want to use.0 -
What IslandMan said, create a seperate Playlist and put your chosen songs in there and then use that file to update your iPod with. I do this so that I can chose the songs I have on my iPod, keep the current/new stuff there so I can listen to the newest additions
:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -
I would suggest you disable the auto synch in your ipod settings (think your ipod has to be connected to do this) so that when you connect your ipod you only have to pull onto your ipod the play lists you want instead of the ipod synching everythin ginto the ipod on its own automatically. We have 4 ipods on the same i tunes account, we stick all the music in 1 liberary and then put it in out own folders when we want it and pop that into the ipod.0

what sra said is the actual way of having multiple libraries, as itunes supports it. on a mac, you hold down the ALT key (option) rather than the shift key though!
Multiple usernames is the best way, and should be how a computer is set up if more than 1 person is using it..
having different playlists is ok, but what it can get confusing if you have 1 playlist called favourite songs, and your OH, wants another playlist called the same!!!0 -
