Flights query - connecting in Zurich

Hi all,

Sure this has been covered before (apologies if so, but i can't find it) but...

Flying to Budapest and connecting in Zurich. My queries are:

a) Will the luggage be transferred from the original plane onto the new one for us? (Think is is a no-brainer, but it's a really special break, I have to be sure).

b) What happens if the outbopund flight is delayed - i know they won't hold the second flight unless it is only a couple of minutes, but they will put us onto the next available onward flight won't they?

c) I believe Switzerland is not part of the EU so in theory I can buy duty free, but does anyone know whether there are any shops at arrivals in zurich? Unfortunately I haven't been told the arrival terminal yet (if there is more than one). I also only get 40 mins between flights , so I may be being overly optimistic in asking this!

Thanks all

The answer depends on whether you are travelling on one ticket, or bought separate tickets for the UK-Zurich and Zurich-Budapest sectors. If you bought a ticket for a journey all the way to Budapest then the airline will take care of luggage transfers, and in the event of flight delays will find a way to get you to your final destination. If you bought separate tickets then you will have to take care of these things for yourself.

Duty-free: yes, you do have this option. However, when I last used Zurich airport I found that their duty-free prices were a good deal higher than high street prices in Britain. I am sure that shops in Budapest will charge even lower prices.
  • Brilliant, thanks for that advice. Yes it is 'one journey/flight', so thats handy to know. And yes, I suspected they would be a lot cheaper on Budapest high st, useful to know though.

    Thanks again :-)
