Putting Printer onto Wireless Network

Sorry if I'm being an idiot. I have looked through the sticky threads and am still a little confused.

We have a wireless network with 2 laptops and a desktop connected through a netgear router. All of the computers are accessing the router remotely and there is a printer connected to the desktop. I want to get rid of the desktop and add the printer to the network. I don't want to do it by sharing.

The printer can be connected to a network using a LAN connection at the back, but it's no where near the router, if I buy a LAN to USB adaptor and then plug in a wireless dongle thingy will the printer then be visible on the network? Or do I have to have a print server? (I don't actually know what a print server is but I think that's the alternative?! :o)

Thanks in advance.
