Incapacity Benefit

I am currenty on IB. I was awarded it last year for 12 months. The 12 mths is up at the beginning of October.
My questions are: What will happen in October, do payment just stop?
Should I be expecting someting in the post from DWP?
Will I need to ring them and re-apply?
Its only four weeks away and as yet I have heard nothing.
If payment stops will I be able to claim something else in the time it takes to see if I'm still eligable for IB?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks

I think you mean that you passed the IB medical called PCA, and that your claim will be reviewed again after 12 months- in Oct 08.

You will be sent the IB50 PCA questionaire again, which you need to complete and return. You may then need to attend a medical examination to decide if you still satisfy the PCA. Your IB will continue to be paid.

no they will not just stop your payments, like previous poster has said they will review it in october, send you a new IB50 to fill in then possibly send you for another medical.

If you are really concerened give them a ring, mine is due for renewal in May next year and they said they woudl eb in touch after that.
    TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T
  • Just wiat until they send you the form, (it may be later than October) your IB will not just stop, in fact I don't think they can stop it unless you fail a medical.

What everyone else has said is correct. You'll be sent an IB50 form and then be sent for a medical, or be passed without one. The only way your money would stop is if you failed a medical.
  • hi my incap benefit came up for review at the end of june and i contacted them as i was worried that i hadnt heard from them and thought they would stop my benefit. they said a form would arrive in due course which it did about 3 weeks after my phone call to them, my money was never stopped and i sent the form back and waited about a month to get a reply from them in all the time this was going on my money was always paid - i know its hard but try not to worry they said they would only stop money if they had a good reason to.
  • Yes sorry thats what I mean. I had a medical last year and was awarded IB. Do I have to wait for them to contact me now though? Surely payments will just stop in 4 wks time. Do you not think I should of had some contact from them before now, (in light that forms and medicals may need to take place)?

IN a word no,they will contact you sometime just before or after with a new IB50 to complete, then you may have a wait of anything upto 5 months(depending on where you live)while they review your I/B.During this time your I/B will be paid and would only stop if you are declared fit for work.
I would advise that you spend sometime researching the IB50 process online in preperation of filling yours in.
  • Perhaps worth getting help from your local CAB to fill out your forthcoming IB50 form.

It has taken me nearly a year from original IB50 to PCA and appeal for Incapacity to be restored. Had to survive on much reduced benefit!

I had help from CAB / MP in preparing an appeal submission and had somebody come with me to my appeal.

    Good Luck!
