mpeg stutter

I have just got a new computer and i have been trying to watch old mpegs that i could watch perfectly on my old computer but now they have a stutter on them. i have used different types of player and they all still have the stutter so i know it is not the type of player and i know the files are ok cause they worked perfectly on my last computer. it also happens when i try and play mp3s so i'm guessing as it is a new computer it must have something to do with it.
could anyone help please.

have you checked that you have the latest codecs and player ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Dont forget Video Acceleration, Open Media Player, Tools, Options, Performance
and put the slider halfway then click OK0 -
If running under 2000 or XP use Task Manager to raise the priority of the MPEG playing app. I need to do this with my DVB-T card.
