With respect, when you post on a public forum you'll get all sorts of comments which may or may not be relevant to the situation. When someone's posts are completely illogical then people are bound to query things. Get over it!0

But to be fair Oldernotwiser it's not really our business, is it? They could have had some money left them to enable them to buy a home, have an insurance policy maturing, or some other scenario that we need know nothing about.
I think sometimes we need to ask for more detail before we can give an answer, but in this case it is not necessary. The OP asked a clear question and fortunately it has a simple answer. We don't need to know anything else.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Let's face it, none of it's our business really. If we all took that attitude then people would get their questions answered by things like "ask the JCP" or "talk to your bank" without any of the individual knowledge and opinions that make this site valuable and interesting. People can't really dictate the way in which their questions are answered if they want to use this site.0 -
I do think that sometimes we need to ask questions but on this occasion I don't think it was necessary as it was merely speculation and the OP had asked a straightforward question with a straightforward answer. If a debate was required it should be on Discussion Time.
Anyway, I don't want any unpleasantness or ill feeling, so I will agree to disagree with you.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

What you say is in part true, ie you cannot direct an answer when you are enquiring about something. Neither do I seek to direct an answer. What I am seeking to do is to elicit the views of others who may have been in a similar positon or the view of those who are experienced in these matters.
In your first reply you referred to there being something "fishy". The implication of that is that something dishonest is proposed and I don't much care for that implication. I will reiterate, I am looking for legal and legitimate solutions if such a solution might be available.0
