Where can you have electric central heating

I am trying to sort electric central heating for our Bungalow. Have you got to have a water tank for an electric combi boiler. I am told that I need a large water tank and that if I do not the electric may cut out if I have too many electric items on at the same time. Also electric central heating is slow to heat up. Where can I go to get good advice. Any help appreciated.

The first question to ask is why are you considering wlectric central heating with the huge installation costs?

Why not get some £30 oil filled radiators as they will produce exactly the same amount of heat for your ££££s as a £3000 electric central heating system. Simply don't believe any marketing rubbish that states otherwise!!!

If you post more details of what is being proposed, more advice can be offered.
  • We have just had to remove an LPG tank which was for our central heating as it was in the way of an extension. This was really expensive to run but we may have to back to it. We have seen on line some compact electric central complete systems which we would prefer. We do want a complete system but when we asked a plumber he said that you need a huge water tank to go with these type of boilers and we do not have space for one. We have worked out that to install oil heating the cost of the oil tank all extras, boiler etc would be expensive. We are in the country with no mains gas and are really trying to find out the best system for us. We did not really want a LPG or oil tank so this seemed the obvious solution
  • We already have all the original radiators in the old part of the bungalow so that would be a saving and where we would need heating in some places we do not have suitable electric points. Although as that is what we are using as a substitute now I have to agree they are good.

I assume your plumber is talking about 'wet' CH on Economy 7 with a thermal store.

Essentially this is is a big tank of water that is heated overnight on cheap Economy 7(or Economy 10) rates.

The system apparently works well - there are threads on this in the 'Fuel and other heating' section.

You might also consider getting a Heat Pump.
