Local authority search

Hi there we were purchasing a property which was a reposession which has now fallen through because we got gazupted. We paid a £200 deposit to our solicitors and we received a letter today with a cheque for £90 of which they said £110 was for this search. We were informed by the solicitors that we would get a full refund if we were unable to complete the sale through no fault of our own. Any advise on this? Also is £110 excessive? Thanks

£110 isn't excessive for a local authority search. The cost varies from LA to LA but solicitors only charge you what they have to pay.
Query the 'no sale, no fee' offer that you thought you had but I suspect that if they've charged you for a search then the 'no fee' meant the fee for the solicitors time (£500 + VAT), not the out of pocket disbursements.
Sorry you didn't get your house
