Hi All
Yes so I have been asked by my bro to find him a decent budget laptop as he is too busy with work at the mo to look. He has said it will be for Internet access (requires wireless connection) and also itunes, microsoft office etc... nothing too exhaustive.
I have been looking for a couple of days and I am so bamboozled by the choices out there, the Acer's all seem good value, looking at the specs, but get terrible reviews and seems their warranties are rubbish too.
From what I can gather I need a machine with at least 1g RAM, but he just needs a good machine, something reliable that will last a couple of years.
Has anyone seen any good deals around? or bought a cheap Laptop theyre happy with? Can anyone suggest any discount codes etc... so that I can be sure I get him the best deal.
Thanks in advance.

hi there
thanks for getting back to me, yeh i read that topic but all thee laptops talked about in it seem to be at least £400 and I was looking at £300 or under.
cheers anyway.0 -
bear in mind you'll need to budget £100 for office, so you really only have £200 for a laptop... !!!!

One concern I would have is RAM on these systems is only 1GB on the below £300 but I assume one could always add RAM later. IMHO Vista performs better with 2GB
If willing to go XP Home

Think I'd go Vista mind and get the extra RAMHope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

The PC World version is better, but I'd be nervous of purchasing anything from PC World.0

Girlfriend is using her ACER without mishap more than a year later, but hers is from Asia. There seems to be differing models here in the UK.
This ACER 7520 with a 17" screen is ok for 300, especially if he'd like such a large screen, but you would need to purchase another Gig of RAM(not expensive).
It also has a extra internal bay for another HDD, so when prices drop he can easily stick another 250GB HDD inside.0 -
I was nervous about buying from PC world but they had the best spec machine for £500 when I bought a new PC 2 years ago. I did have 2 issues which they sorted no problem. The screen had a blown pixel and they changed no problem. I took mouse back after 8 months because it was faulty and they gave me a brand new one.The PC World version is better, but I'd be nervous of purchasing anything from PC World.
