Hi,
First off get a cup of tea, and a nice clean piee of paper. Then write down everything you have coming in (if at all) and then everything going out. This will give you a rough 'Statement of Affairs'.
You're amongst friends here, we're all in debt, but all getting there. It is possible. The debt charities are really good help, they can help you put a stop to creditors coming to your door. However, that's just breathing space - you need to get yourself dorted. It can be done, even though you probably don't feel like it right now.
Here's a quick run-down of somethings you can maybe do tomorrow to get going. Try at least one of them, and see if it helps you feel like you're doing something about the mess.
1) Sort out your CV, and put it up on monster, tale a copy down to any work agancies, pop down to the job centre with it and take copies into places in town that are recruiting. Christmas is coming, and places have started advertising for staff. It's maybe not a long term solution, but will help get the ball rolling.
2) Check around for stuff to ebay, free up some cash.
3) Not sure of the legality of it but if it's baliffs coming for the car for debt not related to the car - can you tell them it's your work, as a taxi-driver? They're not legally allowed to take 'tools of the trade' and as a taxi-driver, a car is pretty essential. Herbi21 is the baliff whizz round here, she'll know the ins and outs.
4) write to all your creditors, tell them the situation and see if they'll accept token payments of £ whilst you get yourself sorted out. If they don;t know the situation they may just think you're a non-payer - can't hurt to have them know.
5) Contact your local housing associations and get registered. May not be able to help you (a freind of mine works in housing, and says the credit crunch has basically flooded them out with applications) but it's worth a go. Likewise council homeless team.
6) Keep your head up. There's no shame in being in debt, the real thing is how you deal with it. The first few months are going to be tough, but it won;t be like this forever. Things will change, but you need to make it happen.
and lastly, keep us up to date! The help and support on here is invaluable. Good luck! This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Sorry didn't realise that you lived in such a small place and that you are so far away from anywhere. The only option I can come up with is to move in with family/friends either in your area or in another town where you have a chance of work.
I don't know anything at all about jobseekers allowance so can't help at all there.
Hang on in there as there will be answers. Can you phone CAB and see what they can advice you to do?0 -
Hi there falling,
I have no useful advice - just wanted to say I'm about your age (I'm 26) and I really feel for you and your situation.
It will get better with the help of all the lovely people on here!

No one here is laughing at you,
We have all been through bad times which is why we can be sympathetic & supportive to others. We've all had different crises, dramas & times we really felt we couldnt go on, but somehow we do & so will you.
Dont know why but your post has really got to me so I'm sending you a very dodgy looking hug just to try & put a smile on your face : :grouphug: .
All over the land people are finding themselves in financial trouble, we on this forum are the lucky ones because we've found ourselves a source of comfort & support to help us through the tough times & encourage us to take a step in dealing with our debts. I suggest you contact either www.cccs.co.uk (just click on it & you'll be transported staight there like a magic) or www.nationaldebtline for further help.
Debt is nothing to be ashamed of, & admitting that you're in trouble & seeking help to deal with it is something to be proud of.
Good luck

im sorry to hear your plight i know from first hand experience how bad back problems are and how they get you the sack etc.
could you nto travel to your nearest town and be a taxi driver their if your using your car for work they cannot take it to pay off debts.
you could if nesccary sleep in your car etc if needed , but i would suggest you work nights as pay for taxi drivers is twice as much at night,
you have taken the first step by coming here now u need to be strong to deal with the rest and we will all help you throught it

Hey parachute man
Have a look at my thread, I am in a very similar position and have many similarities in my life over the past few years as you. Have a read at my first post ever on MSE and then read through the thread that follows.
There is hope, take it one little step at a time and strap yourself in for the rollercoaster ride - I am having good and bad days at the moment but at least I feel I am getting control of my own life back.
Take it easy and PM me if you want support off the main forum - I know it can be hard to put your soul out for public consumption :beer:Real Men Do Cry - Even This Scotsman

Hi Falling,
Your post is so full of desperation, we've all been where you are now and are proof that you can come out the other side.
I can only echo what the others say, speak to the debt charities, National Debtline, cccs and Payplan are all non-judgemental and there is no situation they haven't heard before.
Please keep posting here too, there are some incredibly knowledgable people. Admitting you have a problem and asking for help is the hardest part and you've done that so things can only get better.
