my life is ruined

Hey there, just thanking you all for taking the time to read this if you do , ill try not make it too boring for you all so here goes,

im 25 years old recently everything was going great, gf, new flat, nice car, good job, everything was fine, i wasnt making huge money i was making enough to get by each week.

about 2 year ago i was left off work with a sore back for 2 months, i kept getting sick notes, work wouldnt have me back this was a huge blow, i was on basic sick pay meaning for those 2 month i couldnt pay my Direct Debits, so with a torrent of bank charges that ensued, it crippled me, i borrowed money from a friend to the sum of 1000 quid, that sorted me out again .. back on my feet, only 1000 quid more in debt,

i lost my job soon after this i had a slightly sore back and my work wasnt up to its usual standard, which is fair enough it was a busy place the last thing they needed was me slowing things down, so i became a taxi driver , with little pay 20 hours a week, which barely got me through my direct debits, i lost my flat owing them 600 quid in back dated rent,

i worked august to december last year everything was fine.. i was scraping by, becoming depressed at the little pay i was recieving living on around 20 - 30 quid a month spare to feed myself and what not which at the time my gf was helping me a lot, so like i said we lost our flat, she moved back to glasgow with her parents leaving me on my own, in january things got messy at work, ive just recently found out hes not been paying my national insurance, he owes me a whole months pay which i know ill never see because i wasnt recieving wage slips, basically i was working for a cowboy who has messed up my finances beyond belief i have no fall back.. they sacked me eventually for what they said was being aggressive, i wasnt i was sick of asking for the money they owed me,,

now im out a job.. mounting debt, i cant sleep i cant eat im developing some sort of nervous twitch every time the phone rings, im starting to become a recluse, i have no money coming in at all i am currently job hunting but its not helping..

the debt people are coming for my car, ive got endless amount of letters

i feel at this stage in my life.. this year has been terrible, ive lost my girl, ive lost my job, my house, my car, my self respect

and what makes it worse is my debt only amounts to roughly 10 grand .. i know theres a lotta people out there that have way more debt houses an stuff but i feel right now that everyones laughing at me as my life slowly slips into the drain..

anwyays sorry for posting this dribble im just hoping someone can help me dig my way out of this hole.. either that or im jus gonna go dig a grave :A

Hi there..if you are already qualified as a taxi driver then can you not take it up full time?...there is good money to be made especially at nights and at least it will pay your bills...if you will be self employed don't forget to register for tax and insurance.
What sort of job are you looking for?..a SOA is a good idea also.Don't panic as there is always something to be done x

hey yeah im qualified as a taxi driver, although the place where i live is a small town .. theres 7 companies here each with 2 - 3 employeees, they dont do the whole rent the car and go self employed option, no one is currently recruiting at the moment :(

as for job ? i really dont care, anything i jus need to get some money in but the place i live theres no surrounding area for 30 miles, i would be interested in traveling to work every day bt like i said there coming for my car, which is a huge blow,

um i dont really know what you mean by SOA but im guessing its a summery of what i owe,,

basically i was paying out 520 quid a month in debt, but recently as i sad ive just lost my second job im not recieving any benefit i have to wait 6 month because they told the job centre i left my job voluntarily so that kinda !!!!ed me off, its even worse because they are on his side, after all how do i prove it ?
  • Hi mate,

Sorry to hear you are in a bad situation. If it's any comfort I'm about to loose my taxi business due to credit crunch/health matters, owe shed loads of money etc.

Have you not got any friends or relatives you can go to stay with while you get yourself sorted? It may not be ideal but at least you won't be on your own and dwelling on things too much?
As for claiming job seekers allowance..I understand that they will still pay it but at a reduced rate for 6 months. They cannott expect you to live on nothing! If no joy then you can go to a Dss office and ask for a crisis loan for food if nothing else.
Don't forget that your local CAB can help with debt/housing/benefit problems too so all is not lost.

It may seem like a big mess mate but my Dad always says ' When one door closes, another one opens!' :)

Sorry to read about your situation but.....
your life very definately isn't ruined. You're 25 and you'll get back on track in no time. I was a student with very little money until I was nearly 26!

You'll be entitled to some sort of help. Possibly you could consider moving away slightly to where there's more work? Or staying with family until you can find a job and pay off some debts?

I know it feels like the end of the world, but it is possible to get thro it... look at all of us.... The first step is to look at what money you can earn. Look at the up your income board. Perhaps try mystery shopping if you can't get a job straightaway.... try surveys....

Perhaps call one of the debt charities in the resource bar or send a pm to CCCS_Sarah for advice. There is help out there if you just hang on tight. An SOA is a statement of affairs where you list all your income, outgoings, assets and liabilities on makesenseofcards and then you post it here the MSE forum. Then people can give you advice based on their experience on how you can reallocate your money so it goes further. If it is impossible - which is unlikely - they can give you some advice on where to go to next for help...

  • I don't really have any advice apart from echoing the calls to post your SOA. That summarises the money in and out every month. People will then come along and see where you could cut back and how to sort yourself. Just stick with it until then. There will be a way out somehow. If nothing else then call a debt charity for advice.
