Hi.
My dad has just found out that he has over £5K worth of charges on his mortgage which he was looking at paying off. Is there a way (in very similar manner to reclaiming bank charges) where i can look to investigate these charges further and see if any of them can be reclaimed?
If so are there any templae letters to use for this.
Thanks

What sort of charges are these?
Is it an early redemption penalty?
This is a charge that he only has to pay if he ends his deal early. Otherwsie he won't have to pay it.
If thisis the case then the simplest thing to do is simply no pay off the mortgage early and wait until the end of the special deal period.
I think you need more info about what these charges are.
Early redemption penalties are legal but only get paid if you end your part of the deal early, so are totally aviodable.0 -
As i understand it these charges are basically a collection of various letters sent to him and phone calls. They did also start repossession proceedings at one point although we managed to come to an agreement at court. MY dad went through a period of time when he found it difficult to keep up with payments on the mortgage and i suspect these charges are from that time.
What i would like to get from the bank is a breakdown telling me about the charges that have been accrued on the account and then proceeding to see if these chrages can be reclaimed.

Martin did mention this a while back but it never really seemed to kick off - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=591736
