  • Hi Glowgirl

It's great if you can get on to the WI's list. They audition their speakers, but once you're accepted, your name goes into their yearbook. Other organisations buy the yearbook too, so I've had invitations from all sorts of groups. You need to contact your county or regional WI (click on Find your WI, from the home page here: http://www.thewi.org.uk/). I suggest you contact them to buy a current copy and you'll see the sort of things people talk about and what they charge. Some people charge nothing, but they are usually financial advisers, aromatherapists, chiropodists etc, who clearly see it as a marketing activity, or they are from charities and probably expect a donation. Other people charge £100, but if you charge too much, you probably won't get many phone calls. I charge £50-£60 depending on distance.

The WI hold auditions only 2 or 3 times a year, so, in the meantime, buy a local paper and read the What's On page. Contact any suitable groups and offer your services. Most libraries keep a list of local groups with contact names and numbers, and some councils' websites list them too. Some WIs, Probus clubs, Rotary clubs etc have their own website, so just try googling using different search terms eg club for the retired, women's group, community group, meets once a month etc.

If you talk on an arty subject, NADFAS are another well-organised group which auditions speakers. Again, it's prestigious to be on their list. See here: http://www.nadfas.org.uk/ and click on Lecturing for NADFAS.

    Good luck!

    Hi Cuba Cat

I think signing up with survey and reward sites is a good thing. For just over a year now I've not had to pay for a single DVD or book as I have been getting Amazon vouchers. So I've saved money but not had to cut out on treats. You can do it whenever you want so don't have to worry about filling in surveys at a certain time.
If you enjoy writing I would also look into writing reviews. Depending on how quick you are at coming up with stuff to review then the money can quickly start rolling in. I will gladly refer you to any sites that I'm a member of, feel free to send me a pm.

I certainly understand what you're going through as I was in a similar situation a few years back, money was going in my back but I never really had it as it was always paying the overdraft of. Now I am having to be very careful with money as up until August this year I had two part time jobs, although still only amounted to part time hours but I could manage very comfortably, but as a direct result of the credit crunch have been made redundant from one of them. I am finding the survey sites a great help as it means I have got some extra money to treat myself and my wages are able to pay bills and normal every day expenses.
  • Can anyone enlighten me on why these were removed?

Because it's your website, and as I explained in pne of the deleted posts you are not allowed to promote your own site here.

As am very confused about what I can and cannot do here?
How come other folk are posting links to various sites but I cannot?
Would appreciate you helping me out on this
Remember, this is an open forum! Anyone can post so always exercise caution when acting on info.
arrow.gifDon't post links for personal gain. Except in the referrers section and always declare any interest.

This is from just above where it says Welcome [name]. This should give enough guidance as to where you can post and about what. I can post about your site as I would get no benefit. You can't because you do.

It's generally accepted that if you post something once and it is deleted, it's not such a great idea to just repost it with out asking one of the board guides.
  • Its very difficult me and my partner are a bit skint this month. You just need to cut back asda is great for bargains. Why don't you sign up of mystery shopping you can get around £10 per assignment. Or if worst comes to worst get a payday loan for only £100 or so
    Has a job wooohooo" :j
  • Or if worst comes to worst get a payday loan for only £100 or so

If you do have to get a payday loan - go through Quidco - you will get around £60 cashback in a couple of months

(please note: dont count the money until its in your account)

If you havent already - look at signing up with Quidco or one of the other cashbacksites - you can earn abit more through some of their offers - there is more info in the freebies forum.
