Kitchens - which is better quality?

  • Hi
There is a Howdens in Croydon, and one in Merton too.
    Hope this helps
  • I have been loaned a Howdens brochure to choose my kitchen from. If I were to give an example of the units is there any MSE member(s) that could give me some guidelines of prices so that I can compare to Wickes. (Wickes have guaranteed that all kitchens will half price in the Boxing Day sale and I want to know whether it is better to wait or buy now).

If I buy now, I could possibly have kitchen fitted by early Jan or even end December whereas if I wait for Boxing Day sale there is a three week delivery wait (minimum). As I am hoping to let the house out I would lose the rent for every week waiting.

Also, would I be better off getting my worktops and/or appliances (cooker, hob and hood) elsewhere?

I have recently got a quote on 22 units from MFI, B and Q and Homebase including worktops, sink, taps, oven, gas hob, chimney, int dishwasher and washing machine excluding fitting as my builders doing my extension wil do this

Units include tall glass cabinet and larder as well as larder pull out rack and corner swinging pan rack for corner cupboard

    prices are
    MFI- £5k
    Hombase- £5k
    BandQ- £4.7k

The MFI one is prob best quality and was much higher price but got them down by a lot even after the 50% + 20% discount

Is this a good price? - I was thinking of going to Howdens but doubt they will be much cheaper?

    any views?

I'am having a kitchen fitted using Howdens and the price was great. Now my kitchen is rather on the large side and when I got a fitter with a Howdens account to give me a quote I was well impressed.Kitchen Kraft want about £17000 to fit ,but using Howdens is only going to cost£8500.The price you pay is not the same price as that in the brochure cos the bloke who is fitting mine has got an account with them and gets between 20% and 40% off depending on the style of kitchen you choose.

Sorry forgot to say,Howdens is a subsiduary of MFI and makes all MFI kitchens. The good thing though is that Howdens make thier kichens using 18mm thick frames but MFI frames are only 15mm thick, plus Howdens are ready built and not flat pack like MFI'S.

    Hi,

I'm having my Howdens kitchen delivered on Friday! :j

Have heard only good things about them. Will soon see and tell all lol

By the way,we only got our builder to place the order yesterday! We got a quote from B&Q last week but they couldn't guarantee delivery before xmas!!

OH well pleased,as units come pre assembled from Howdens,he hasn't much fitting work to do.

  • Does anyone know if the MFI 'Lisbon' kitchen is available from Howden's?...If so, what is it called in the Howden's brochure.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Martin
