I buy Cravendale a I am single and hardly get through any milk at all, this type of milk allows me to not waste milk as it doesn't go off that quickly, for a family that goes through milk quickly I wouldn't bother with the premium price for this milk.

I personally would buy full fat milk and water in down to make semi skimmed.

If you do this you're not just diluting down the fat content, you're diluting the protein, calcium and other nutrients as well. This would be fine for adults but if you were doing it for a small child that still relied on milk for a significant proportion of its nutrients then it wouldn't be that good an idea. The only difference between full fat and semi-skimmed milk is the reduction in fat, not the other nutrients.

    Yes, this is important.
Once kids are older you can cut corners on cheaper milk but I'd stick them with full fat until they are at least 5, unless very good diet.
    I echo pigpens advice really.

Some Asda stores have Cravendale 2 for £3 or 3 for £4. ETA this is the 2L bottles.
It is written on the bottle label.

  • i usually buy my milk from farmfoods for £1 for 4 pints of full fat. used to pay around £2.20 for 6 pints in tesco and we go through a lot with having a 2 and 3 year old so are better off buying in farmfoods.
  • farmfoods milk is only 2 litres for £1 wheras sainsburys 1% is the full 4 pints for £1 - an extra 10% for the same price !!

Hmmm.....I wouldnt save anything by getting it from Farmfoods as the nearest one is over 12 miles away and would cost me over £6 in bus fares so I will have to stick to the overpriced Tesco or Co-Operative or just hope the price of milk stays at under £1 at Lidl!!!!!
  • 2ltrs 99p in farmfoods semi skimmed, sorry didnt know I have just repeated what someone else said, sorry

We get through probably 1 to 1.5 litres of milk a day, what with an (almost) 3 year old and a nine year old.

I'm never sure whether or not the 3 year old should still be on full fat? Or whether skimmed or semi-skimmed would be ok  Is it just the fat content that varies? Or the calcium aswell?

Anyhow, i digress... does anyone now where the cheapest place to get milk would be?

Right now we buy either the tesco 'pure' or cravendale when it's on offer - like 2 for £2.

It would either have to be something that keeps for a while, or is UHT, as we only go shopping once a week at most ;)

My Health Visitor told me that children should have full-fat milk unitl they are 5, watch out for the specials in Iceland they often do 2 for £2 on the 4 pint which is a great saving. HTH
