Am I entitled to anything?

Hi All

Please help to calculate any of the entitlements I might be eligible for. I am a self-employed since August last year who had a projected yearly income of around £12000. I made less so far. However, due to some circumstances I had to move out from my current place and I will be renting a one-bedroom flat from a private landlord at £800 per month starting from next month. Can anybody tell me if I am entitled to anything at all? As I can foresee a decrease in my earnings already. Also, if I only worked 9 month in the tax year do I qualify to apply for working tax credit or not?

  • tbh i`m unsure if as self employed you would qualify for any benefits, thats not an area i know alot about, however i do see problems, your rent will be £9600 leaving less than £50 a week for all your other bills and food, impossible i would say.
Can you not find anything cheaper than that for one bedroom?I know here in the n.west you could get a 2 bed house for half of that.

  • If you are over 25 (no dependant children) and work more than 30 hours a week you may be entitled to working Tax Credit which will be provisionally calculated on income received 2007/8 tax year. Try HMRC website for a calculator or https://www.direct.gov.uk
