How much did you pay for your alterations?

Hi,
I am going to have my first dress fitting (with an independent seamstress as I bought my dress on sale) and just wondered how much everyone paid for their alterations?
I'll need hem shortened, a bustle put on and the dress taken in at the bust. It does have quite a heavily beaded bodice so I expect that part to be expensive
I would be grateful for all your replies, whether you went through a bridal store or not.
Thanks

Hello,
I bought my sample dress on sale too, and the shop has already agreed on a price for alterations next year. I am having exactly the same alterations done as you lol, and even my bodice is heaily beaded too. We have agreed a price of £100 total, and she has agreed to get the dress cleaned in this price too.0 -

Hi I paid £45 for the hem of my wedding dress to taken up and she put on a bustle as there was'nt one on and she stitched a little blue ribbon in side the dress for my something blue.
Hope this helps0 -
Im a bit worried about this too as my dress is a size 12 and needs to be a size 8 and taken up too. I paid £300 for it and have allowed £500 in total so im hoping that covers it. I dont want to get to 6 weeks before the wedding and be stung with a massive bill!0

I think mine is going to be about £100, it's being shortened slightly, having straps added and being taken in as well.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

I paid £50 for the corset part to be dropped down and taken in, the hem to be taken off and a button on the back to hold up the train to make a bustle effect x0

Well I am a bit
I have just picked my dress up from my final fitting and the alterations blew out from "oh, it will be under £100" at my first fitting, to £171!!!
I had the hem done (front only) £55, taken in (quite a bit and beading had to be removed and replaced) £110 and bustle and bra loops added £6.
I know the beading would have taken ages, but even at my second fitting when you had taken it all off surely, something could have been said about it costing more than orignally estimated.
But what can you do, I need/want my dress.
Just a bit disappointed

My daughter gets married in a couple of weeks, when we ordered her gown, 16 months ago, from Berketex we had to pay £150 up front for alterations.
We were told this would be returned if none were needed. As it turned out the bodice needed taken in, (loads of beading) the waist altered and a dance loop to the bottom of the skirt ......................... Bye bye £150!
I did say I would buy her £150s worth of chocolate and she could eat until her gown fit her properly but she declined.:rotfl:
Having said that she does look stunning and it fits perfectly, that's what matters most!0 -
We do not know how to make a new discussion forum so added our comments to this we are so so annoyed and have been since day one with Berketex.
They have been dishonest with the discounts they offer, they measured wrong so they could get addition funding for altering the dress and now we pick up the dress the day before the wedding and hope it fits.
A wedding is a great time in our life and a company like Berketex should understand this and not add stress to the situation.
This forum addition is just to help and advise other potential customes if they have the experience we have had with the Worcester Branch to buy the dress somewhere else and save a lot of stress and and agony and save the money they promise to discount but do not.
It is great to be encouraged to buy at a discount but then if you do not get it, and by the way they do not reduce the VAT wow, and when they measure wrong and charge you £70.00 to alter(what a great money spinner).
Brides beware we may not have the dress of our dreams for our wedding, how cruel is that and they have already charged us!!!!!!
If anyone has any offers of help please HELP it is our day not the net profit day of Berketex!!! We wish :money: Martin could call them tomorrow because we know he could sort them and our very special day out on Saturday 20th December 2008.
Kindest Reagards
