Hello everyone.
I'm looking for software and tips or tricks for overclocking my laptop.
It has a Duo Core 2 1.8GHZ processor.
Many thanks in advance.
Pete.

Don't really know much about overclocking period, but I'd imagine the biggest problem with overclocking a laptop, assuming the components are suitable, would be heat. Overclocked rigs usually require advanced cooling, and laptops are not setup for that. But I'm sure if it can be done someone will know, though I'd be inclined to post this on a gamers forum since they are usually big into overclocking.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

ClockGen would be a good place to start. It's all software based, so reversible should anything go wrong, just restart.
Only thing is you have to find out which PLL chip (clock generator,) your laptop uses- best bet is google but it might take some finding.
Also recommend Prime 95 as a program to leave running for an hour or so with any new settings to test stability.Russia is HERE0 -
Easiest way is to goto bios and (if possible) do it from there. However, some bios configurations will only allow the cpu AND ram speed to be overcocked and its invariably the ram that will overheat first if that is the case.
In all fairness, I really wouldnt bother. Laptops arnt designed to be overclocked and even if you do manage to get a stable setting it will barely be noticeable (If at all)
Overclockings all to do with heat. Too much and things go wrong (Possibly killing your computer!)
If you do go for it I would advise downloading 3D MARK and running that each time you change a setting. It will run your computer maxed out and if its going to fail then 3dmark will make sure of it!
If you need any help give me a buzz, but again ~ I recommend you just dont bother.:idea:0 -
ClockGen isn't available with that link at the moment so maybe they are tweaking it or it's been causing problem.Always looking for a bargain and to help0

Have a read of that.
Is your laptop out of warranty? I perhaps wouldn't attempt it if it is, quite a costly replacement if it all goes wrong0 -
I might think the other way, with the view that overclocking probably invalidates the warranty, so if I still had one I'd want to protect it. I would however be in the camp of not trying it at all,I doubt there is any decent risk / reward in it ie: if it goes well the gain will be negligible and if it goes wrong it could cost a laptop.http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=177&pgno=0
