Credit Cards - all to charge fees?

Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but today I read in Metro that credit card companies are considering charging £30 fee per annum to all their customers, blaming credit card tarts and bad debt for a sharp fall in profit.
Serves them right for being so stupid and arrogant as to think that the general public would not rush to take advantage of their "offers", or just run up debts that can't be paid back unless interest is frozen.
Personally, I have five cards but I clear the balances every month so "they" don't make a great deal of money from me. But £150 per annum just to have five pieces of plastic? A winged piggy is floating just outside my window. I will cut down to one card.

Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Not sure I have seen much evidence of this and the new 'hot' deals from HSBC and Post Office prove this to be incorrect... maybe others know better.0

I must admit it did seem a bit strange and sudden to me. But then, knowing what newspapers are like when they hear vague rumours and convert them into full blown, dire predictions...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

They also had a bit on working lunch yesterday about this - They said that companys may start charging an annual fee again - but they had quotes from barclaycard and capital 1 saying they had no plans to introduce annual fee's.0
