Minidisc HiFi - recommendation?

My old CD player has had its day, and the reader jumps tracks and makes listening to music impossible, no matter how often I clean the lens. CDs play OK on my portable player, so that's how I know the HiFi now needs a decent burial.
I am considering getting a minidisc/CD player, and since I am fussy about the quality of the sound I listen to, can some kind soul out there who knows what they are talking about advise me as to the best brand/model etc?
Money not an issue. Well, not over £500 anyway...

Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

To be honest I just purchased an entry level Sony MD player/recorder (full size) & insured it had optical output. Discs recorded at the best quality sound good, better than CD. I have a number of music DVD's these have a much better sound.0

Yeah, Sony. My TV and VCR are Sony and so is my portable CD player. Even my dictaphone is. My (future) DVD-R will probably be a Sony too.
If I were filthy rich I'd go for Bang & Olufsen, probably with Bose speakers, but filthy rich I ain't...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Pop down to WHSmiths and flick to the back of What Hi-Fi for a good idea. I quite like my NAD C521 but the C542 gets some very good reviews and costs around £250 new. Worth checking out."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

Well you would cetainly have some great looking kit -- pity about the sound
Mr Skint is right - you'd be better off with Kef (Money no object of course!) although this would be my choice....

Ok. Kef. Or anything else, for it no longer matters. Just got a Sony DAB Microsystem. No minidisc, but hey, I can live with it. I am listening to a very crisp Smooth FM and my CDs ain't jumping tracks every which way.
£200 and suits my needs. :TBe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
