BTW, "Cross over the road" sounded like it might be a Sidney Carter, but despite an enjoyable 10 minutes rooting through the selection of his song books which happened to be on the shelf behind me I can't find it! So it's probably not one of his. Can I offer you "One more step along the road I go" as an alternative?Signature removed for peace of mind0

I think the book we used to sing from was a blue book (With a black illustration of a crowd on?!?!) and it was called "Come and Praise!" or something like that.
My fave song was the Autumn Song which went
"Autumn days when the grass was duelled
and the silk inside a chestnut shell" etc, etc, etc!
Aww those were the days huh!"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Bargainbabe wrote:Yes Sue it does go something along the lines of:
Sing Hallelujah to the lord
(this line is then repeated about 3/4 times!)
The moves on to Jesus has risen from the dead..(which is also then repeated!)
(although my and my school mates used to sing "jesus is coming for his bread, jesus has lost his blood* head", sorry I was only 8 at the time!)
Sing Hallelujah to the Lord
Sing Hallelujah to the Lord
Sing Hallelujah
Sing Hallelujah
Sing Hallelujah to the Lord
and so on ad infinitum with
Jesus is risen from the dead
Jesus is coming for His bride (DH says he used to sing 'Jesus is coming back again' rather than this)
Jesus is Lord of all the earth
Jesus is living in His church
That's all we can think of for now.
Do they still sing "Most highly flavoured gravy"? Or is that too old-fashioned these days? Love that carol! I can really whoosh my voice around and annoy the boys when I sing it!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sorry I can't be any help I sang Lord of the Dance Settee for years!
I love the modern hymns the children sing. My favourite is Calypso Carol.
See him lying on a bed of straw;
Draughty stable with an open door,
Mary cradling the babe she bore;
The prince of glory is his name. (clap x3)
Oh, now carry me to Bethlehem
To see the Lord appear to men;
Just as poor as was the stable then,
The prince of glory when he came.
Star of silver sweep across the skies,
Show where Jesus in the manger lies.
Shepherds swiftly from your stupor rise
To see the Saviour of the world.(clap x3)
chorus
Mine are riches from your poverty,
From your innocence, eternity;
Mine, forgiveness by your death for me,
Child of sorrow for my joy.(clap x3)
chorus
Angels, sing again the song you sang,
Bring God's glory to the heart of man;
Sing that Bethl'em's little baby can
Be salvation to the soul.(clap x3)
chorus~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

"Would you all walk on the other side or would you be afraid
Cross over the road my friend, his compassion knows no end
dededahdad dah dah
Cross over the road ""

Now this is really bugging me as the choir sang it badly (as they do every hymn) the other Sunday. I liked the folky lament to it.Would you walk by on the other side,
When someone called for aid?
Would you walk by on the other side,
And would you be afraid?Cross over the road, my friend,
Ask the Lord his strength to lend,
His compassion has no end,
Cross over the road.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

The song is called Cross Over the Road.
I found a book for school assemblies but can't find any lyrics.
