How long do Nationwide take?

I got a text on my phone saying my application for a mortgage with Nationwide had just begun.

I am going through a financial advisor, so will be pretty much out of the loop, but was surprised when I got a text from them!

How long does the process usually take? How long does it take them to instruct a survey usually?

Anyone got any ideas?

They have an automated link into thier surveyors, so if you had a fast track pass then it instructs the valuation within a few minutes.

If not then they usually instruct within a week for a standard pass. Anything not a pass can take any amount of time.

OK, thanks for the info... I have no idea what type of pass it would be. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Make sure you keep an eye on them!

I have a nationwide mortgage and called them two weeks ago to inform them I was renting out my property. The lady stated I would receive a form in the post and I needed to sign and return before I could rent it out.

Yesterday I called as I hadn't received it and they said they hadn't done anything about it! So i've been sat waiting for two weeks and its put me back!

They are not efficient, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing!!

I have several accounts and an ISA with them and they still wanted proof of my address, so I sent them one of the statements they had sent me the week before!

  • Nationwide can be very efficient, BUT you have to keep nagging them! We applied online and indicated we wanted them to do our conveyancing for us... several phone calls and 10 days later they decided to sort it out!! It also took 10 days to instruct a surveyor... but within hours of speaking to someone who knew what they were doing, the surveyor was on the phone and it was arranged for the next day. They were also pretty poor at returning phone calls. We didnt go through a broker and did it all ourselves, so hopefully your adviser/broker should do all the chasing up for you. I would still recommend them though??!!

When mortgages were dealt with at the local branch, Nationwide were unbeatable and offered service second to none.

Now it's centralised, it's a bit more hit and miss.
Still find their service above average though.

I'm also in the throws of a mortgage application with Nationwide, again through an IFA (Independent Financial Advisor ...).

From the point the IFA ordered the home buyers report through Nationwide, I received a call from the agent marketing the property we're buying no less than 30 mins after the IFA submitted the survey request to Nationwide, to confirm a date for the survey, the date being only three days later.

I hope the rest of our applicaton proceeds as quickly, but thus far they have been very quick. The survey / valuation was completed a week ago today, I'm waiting for the full report from the surveyor and for the mortgage offer from Nationwide atm. If the mortgage process takes less than a month I'll be happy.

Thanks hostman, that sounds promising. I need the survey results sent to me within 3 weeks, so it sounds like that should happen :)
  • I was going to go with nationwide and I couldn't fault the speed of the service from the local branch, survey was done within days! shame my LTV wasn't enough
