Please help to claim as my partner in prison

I really would appreciate some advice on this as I am all over the place and just dont know what to do or know anyone that can help me.
My partner has just gone to prison and I am left with my son and need to sort everything out but just dont know what to do. The pain is still fresh but I know I need to sort out benefits etc as if I dont do it now when am I going to?
I live in a council flat and have been on Maternity leave but can not go back to work now that he has been sentenced. My partner was also on Incapacity Benefit so I dont know what I have to do about that and also claiming Income support etc I just dont know what to do.
Thankyou anyone who can help me x

    Hi,

I would suggest a visit to a Citizens Advice Bureau or other welfare benefits advice centre in your area to make sure you get everything sorted out properly especially as you have a young baby to look after.

Adviceguide has some information re prison including the fact that Incapacity Benefit would be suspended.

I would definitely ring CAB or visit them to make sure you inform the right people and that you are getting any benefits you might be entitled to for you and your baby. The Adviceguide website has info, did you read all the links?

Depending on your local area, you may find your local 'welfare rights' office of more help than the CAB. You can find them on your local councils website.

I think to be safe I'd contact Incapacity Benefit first so they can stop that before you end up with overpayment and needing to repay.
One day I might be more organised...........
