WARNING British Gas drain insurance!

If you have a service contract with British Gas which covers drains, don't expect them to pay if there is a problem unless your drains serve only your property.
My parents have just had a problem with the drain in their garden and thought they were covered, however BG said that it was a shared drain so it wasn't covered. Most houses have shared drains apparantly, unless your house is not near any other houses.
My mum was sold this extra insurance over the phone in addition to her existing service contract, they did not make any checks or surveys to see if their drain was shared.
I am hoping that will will be able to get a refund on the drains part of the insurance for my parents as we believe its been mis-sold. If you have this cover, call BG to check that you are covered before you cancel anything.

Would be interesting to know what it cost your folks to fix - as against the price of the policy.
We were unlucky enough to need a new sewer (the bit that belongs to us) and with a good local builder doing the work it cost £150, probably less than one year's policy.0 -
They had to get Dyno-rod out, it cost about £110. I'm not sure what the premiums are.

I had a phone call from them, and they tried to push me into buying, but I said I wanted to read the T&Cs first. When I spotted this I didn't take it up. They didn't point out any limitations.0 -

Seems quite dear in relation to our work.
I hope they get their premium refunded as it clearly is useless to them in this case.0
