if you are going to threaten to leave virgin, check out your other options first eg. with sky - what does their equivalent cost? basic sky plus phonecalls and b/band is £20-odd.
also, if you move to sky through quidco, there is a large cashback offer. ring virgin and be prepared to go through with it.
there are movies/movie channels you can watch on sky without the movies package. we lost sky sports too and OH watches sky sports news from the news/docs mix.
good luck x0 -
We told virgin we were leaving. I called the disconnections department and told them to give me a date and time they would be coming to collect there equipment so i could arrange for the sky engineer to call shortly afterwards.
Result is xl tv with M broadband, talk evenings and weekends with satanta sports for £35.99 until june 2009.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -

This is the problem with leaving, you HAVE to have a bloody BT line for phone BB etc. We do not have one of these so would need to fork out for to be installed. I wonder if there any deals which include a BT line installation for free or a reduced rate?
Thanks for the advice

I have been advised by national debtline to open a basic bank account, which i am looking into, i found this link from Martins Best Bank Accounts Page
http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf
Hope this helps anyone looking for one of these0 -
looks like LloydsTSB is going to be the best deal for me. They have a £10 buffer zone and you can get a debit card with it, all i need to do is pop into the branch and show my driving licence, and i will be able to open an account.
I am waiting for the pack to come through from national debtline0 -
HI there,
Just a quick one as I'm running late - but you have young children - have you heard of the 'NCT - National Childrens Trust' (website is www.nct.org.uk) well our local one here has NCT sales twice a year and you can register and sell your childrens old toys and clothes - you don't have your own stall - they do it all for you - you get some tags to attach to the clothes and price them up - they do take a commission (25% our local one) but they are a charity - you simply drop of the pre-used stuff around 7.30am on a saturday the doors open to the public at 9am and at 1pm you go back and pick up your clothes/toys that didn't sell and pick up a cheque too.
I am sorting stuff for one in 2 weeks - get your kids to help select what toys they have outgrown etc - its all about recycling (but also money for old rope).
If you need anymore info - contact me!

Anybody know if a basic bank account can be a joint bank account? My OH has asked me this as she would like both our wages paid into the same account0

I have looked into changing my tv package to sky, but this is going to work out expensive in the short term, have to lay out money for the BT line and the Sky+ package.
Why do all these good packages like talktalk require a BT line  it makes me cross !!0 -
BT reduced from £125 to £29.99 until the end of September
Until the end of September, you can get a BT line installed or reconnected for £29.99 - much cheaper than the usual £125. However, this involves signing up for an 18 month contract, rather than the usual 12, and you'll need to make at least ten chargeable calls per month. Having said that, the saving on the installation should dwarf any call costs. This isn't available online; to get it you need to ring 0800 800 150. See the terms and conditions.
This is from Martin, I found it in the home phone section, it may just help.
