You can do without the credit cards even without savings, you should be buying things on a need and not want basis, think to yourself, do I really need this, and unless it will keep you alive, then for now, its not needed until the debts are more manageable.

You really need to get your wife on board, get her to come on here and read the thread and maybe even post her concerns, its not going to be easy working towards being debtfree, but with a little control and determination on all parts you can do this.

You don't have to pay for delivery for tesco/asda or sainsburys, I have been online grocery shopping for years and have never paid for delivery, take a look at the vouchers board, I'll get the link and post it here in a mo. It is completely legal, otherwise it wouldn't be on this forum, martin would make sure of that.

Hi Merlot - thank you so much. I normally stay on this board so had no idea about the codes for free delivery!

Sending you a virtual hug or buying you a big virtual beer whichever you prefer

PP, don't feel silly, you weren't to know about the codes.

You should venture on other boards, but be warned some of the other boards are nowhere near as friendly as here.

Another board I would recommend is the Old Style Board, full of ideas and very welcoming too.

I take the offer of the hug, cause it cold ere and i'm not putting the heating on in September, my husband had the heating on last night and I switched it off when I realised he was walking around in shorts and a t shirt with the heating on...what was he thinking of? Not the flipping bill, I can tell you.

Hi peb, thanks for your advice. I agree the groceries are really high and we have been trying to cut back, i have persuaded my OH that we need to buy own brands wherever possible which we do, am going to see if i can reduce this further.

As for the car my OH and I have given this serious thought, and we both came to the conclusion that the car IS needed. I sometimes use it for work if required, but it would be nearly impossible to go out and get bits for the house and shopping without it, plus if i did get rid of it i would never be able to afford to buy another. Without i would not be able to visit my family either as they all live in different parts of the country. i know a car is a major expense, but i feel that it is needed.

The travel is a major problem, i commute into london every day as this is were i work. I have cut back on the travel card to the minimum required and use the pay as you go oyster for tube and bus journeys, although i do the same journey every day. i am trying tro find a job closer to home to combat this.

    I appreciate all your advice

I feel for you! My dh was spending £400 pcm on commuting and was unable to get a closer to home job. In the end we took drastic action... We went on a dmp saved enough to cover our mortgage for a few months ( could do this buy cutting back within the cccs budget) and DH resigned! Our situation is VERY complicated tho and their was a lot more to our life change than just dropping out.

With regards to the car, we now run a tiny car ( we need it for the nursary run of 20 miles a day) But we down sized from our ppl carrier despite having 5 children as the tiny car is sooo much cheaper to run. We hire a second car if we go on holiday.

Anyway I wanted to wish you luck.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

Wow lisabell how did u manage that? I rang them earlier on today, and i ran through all the different options and we would actually pay more if we dropped the sports and the broadband to the lower speed, i did NOT threaten to leave though, maybe i should?
  • :j got some good news, i spoke with orange earlier today and managed to get my contract down to £30 a month, so saving money already. :money:

I also rang National Debtline, went through all the options and got a case number. they are sending me an information pack, and once i have filled out the budget plan i will call them back.

I think a DMP is likely at this point
