A long time ago (well back some time in the '80s) you used to be able to just get your tax disc and walk down to the post office and they'd hand over the cash to you, but then some bright sparks ('80s version of a chav) decided it would be a good idea to smash passenger windows and steal the disc and wander down the post office for some beer money.

So now you have to send the disc back to the DVLA and they will send out a cheque to the registered vehicle keeper's address to make sure the rightful person gets the money.

You go to a post office and ask for form V14, you stick the disc to the form with sellotape or glue. Send it off to DVLA- if it's a lot of money you might consider recorded delivery, and keep the stub, and photo copy the form with disc attached.

You're into September now, had you done this a few days ago you would have had a refund of September too.

Wig - I was told at Post Office that DVLA won't accept recorded delivery.

Not sure about tax disc but every log book I've sent back to DVLA has been recorded and I have had no problems with it - and proof of delivery has been available on royal mail website.

T be honest I'd send it recorded as at least you have something just in case in a few weeks the DVLA turn around and say "what tax disc!"

To reclaim a refund of car tax duty you need to collect a form from the Post Office or your local DVLA office.

You must have at least one month remaining on the tax disc from the time they receive it to reclaim a refund of duty - you will be requested to provide your reasons as to why you are un-taxing it and if, you intend to SORN it

Darn, think she may just be too late with it then.

Just in case anyone is relying on Sassy's post, let's correct a few points...

You can also download a V14 form here.

No. The form explains that you need to post it with at least one month remaining...
To get a refund for each full calendar month left on the tax disc, you must post this filled-in form to us before the first day of the month you want the refund from.

    Simply untrue.
You only have to confirm you meet the criteria.

    Hope this helps. ;)
