AVG8 - requires restart every time I use PC

Hi all
Everytime I boot my PC the AVG window appears saying it has updated successfully but needs to restart PC to complete update (the tray icon is grey with a ! in the middle). When I do restart the same thing happens.
Also, whenever I go to shut my PC down there are always windows updates (usually 8) to install.
Can anyone advise how I sort these issues?
Any advice gratefully received.
