Firefox 3 won't allow adobe flashplayer

i've noticed a few sites, such as https://www.xbox.com require me to have flashplayer installed, however despite downloading and installing it, it still asks for it next time i'm on the site.
i've tried installing in safe mode, restarting pc several times, but nothing seems to be allowing it.
i can't find anything installed to firefox which may be stopping it working, and don't want to start using ie.
any ideas?

Not exactly the same problem as you have, but clearly there is an issue with FF3 and Adobe flash player, seems that the beta 10 may be the answer

It does not work for me either. I have tried to auto install and it will not do it. I have tried to manually install it and it will still not work.

If your installation has got corrupted, trying to reinstall may not achieve anything. You must uninstall first (properly). Uninstall then use the removal tool http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
Only then go to Adobe.com and reinstall the flash plugin or activex."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
