Problem with dishwasher fuse

The fuse has blown on my dishwasher plug, and before arranging a costly visit from the service department, i want to establish if the appliance has a fault or whether the socket is to blame. The dishwasher is only a couple of years old and has not been a problem before. Tonight i replaced the fuse and tried it again. As soon as i flicked the switch on the socket the fuse blew again. The main appliance switch on the front of the machine was still in the off position which leads me to believe that the socket may be to blame. I dont want to plug in anything else to test the socket as this may lead to other household appliances being disabled and that would not be good. Can anyone help?

What ampage is the fuse? It may be worth trying maybe a 5 amp istead of a 13 for e.g.
Is there anything else plugged into the same socket that could be causing a problem?
    I haven't got one!
  • Its currently a 13 amp fuse, which I assume is what it should be as it was supplied with that. The socket is a single, and we have never had a problem with it before.

But then you've never had a problem with the dishwasher before either. I would almost certainly believe that it was the dishwaher but I'm no expert. Couldn't you try plugging something else in just to test the socket before going to the expense of a callout etc. After all, to replace the another fuse is far cheaper than a plumber. Try plugging the hoover in or something pretty powerful like that. It won't blow all your electrics just the fuse. It may possibly trip the fuse on the main box but if it's newish just flip the switch back...

    Good luck

There must be a problem inside your Dishwasher. There is no way the sosket would cause the plug fuse to blow. A bad connection may cause it to heat up & fail eventually but if the fuse is blowing within seconds then the fault is with the dishwasher. It may be water getting into the electrics but if ther is no sign of water under the dishwasher then I WOULD THINK THE FAULT IS IN THE WIRING HARNESS INSIDE THE DOOR.
  • Many thanks for your replies. i will try running something else off the socket, but it looks like it might be the dishwasher. Not overly impressed with Smeg if the washer is faulty, particularly since it is only 2 years old and only gets used 3 times a week. Might be digging out the marigolds for a while :(
