Getting tickets for sold car
I traded my car in for scrap value in mid-June, signing the log book and leaving it with the garage. They gave me the yellow slip and I sent it of to DVLA but can't remember if I got anything back.
About a month ago I had a letter from Ealing Council saying there was an unpaid Fixed Penalty Notice and I had 28 days to pay or dispute it. The garage gave me a copy of their invoice to send to Ealing and I haven't heard anything back. I assumed the garage had fixed it, sold it on and the paperwork hadn't caught up yet.
Today I got another FPN, this time from Camden, and I'm not happy. I'll speak to the garage tomorrow and I presume they'll have the buyer's name, but will a letter from them to DVLA be enough?

Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.

I had a similar incident a few years back. As I recall I just wrote to them saying I no longer had the vehicle and I heard nothing more about it.0

i've had a couple like this, with different cars, although one was involved in an accident. As zenmaster says, inform them you haven't owned the vehicle. they should then follow up with the people responsible.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

This happened to me a few years back. The car was physically scrapped ( I checked and saw it as a shell after being dismantled for parts) but suspect someone had pinched the number plates and put it on a similar car (ringing?) .This was found dumped by the roadside in the next county and so I had a police visit I also had several speed camera + parking tickets .but after producing copies of my receipts with dates never heard any more. The copper said that it happened all the time and the main culprit was the DVLA taking far too long (at the time )to update their records.resulting in all this time wasting chasing previous owners.0
