Driving License Address

I am currently based in Germany with my husband and on doing our BFG renewal today I happened to mention that I was needing to advise DVLA of my change of surname due to my marriage. She then questioned me as to the address on my license and when I said I had left it as my UK home address she said that it must be changed to a BFPO address and if I were to be stopped then I would be fined £1000 for not having a BFPO address on my license.
This seems absurd and I am reluctant to change it to a BFPO address. Just wondering if anybody has heard of this before and knows if she is correct before I check with DVLA.
Many thanks...

Why are you reluctant to change it to a BFPO address0

you can leave it as your UK address as that is your permanant address....as your BFPO address is NOT permanant, this is what i have done for the past 18 years in the Army and when i've been stopped by the police, i have told them that my parents address is my permanant address however being in the forces i live where i work.....and they have always been more than happy with that! and have never questioned it (i've even been to court and convicted of a driving offence and they never questioned it either) so i wouldn't worry
It just means when you change your name it will be sent to your parents then they have to send it to you (saves hassle from bloody DVLA) and as you said BFPO addresses can cause no end of problems.
in theory you could be fined etc but if you put it in the right words you will get away with it.........Just leave it as the address (i'm guessing your parents) you already have and if stopped and asked just explain that that is your permanant address......If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
have a word with your Master Driver/MT section. One would hope they're on the ball and know the score with both the DVLA & the German equivalent.0

Utter rubbish, I have been in BFG for 6 years and still have my licence in my parents address. During this time I have been stopped my the German Politzi several times and NEVER had a problem with it.0
