  • Hi This is what I do. Go to store and have a look. Check the colour, weight and screen size. Test the keys/numeric keys. View the Vista Info screen, Windows key + Break then select Windows Experience Index and look for the higher numbers up to say 5 for each property. If there is no Windows Experience Index shown next to the Rating: ie its blank ask an assistant to log in as admin and re check. Higher, in all aspects is better.

Check out all the competition PC's in that price range and go higher if you can. Check for included software (not 60 day free trials) and discounts on accessories/freebies/warranties. There should be an aboundance of inputs and outputs.

    Let the machine impress you.

Had a quick search on the net and most of the reviews I could find were pretty positive about it (see here).

From these reviews it seems fairly light and by looking at the specifications it should have no problem in playing DVDs, surfing the net, word processing and playing music (although the quality of the music output through the speakers will never be amazing from a laptop).

The only thing it wont do is play the latest, greatest games and some people have commented on the battery life being a bit poor (< 2 hours) but for the things that you need it for it should be able to do them all fine.

    Hope that has helped

Thats going to be tricky as its not available in store, and the model has otherwise been discontinued.

These machines have been 'refurbished', presumably by PC World. They were faulty and brought back and 'fixed'. Last year we bought three such machines for our business, one failed within a week, and another within three months.
  • pgilc1, Thats the advice I have offered. You don't buy a car without driving it. Go to the shops, go all touchy feely, look at what the designers have done (or not) look at the specs and decide, ask for a discount but not always a discontinued model. There is the new Centrino2 out so prices will change soon and more models coming as students go back to classes.
