Email on own domain

My son has a Bronze package, and I have a Silver package because I point other domains to parts of my space, and they should get more visits.
There is a spamfilter, in the cpanel, although I must admit I have not played around with it too much.

I used Register 1 - the email forwarding was included in the £3 a year .co.uk fee

As the source, they also did good web hosting deals, but I don't need hosting

i pay £12 a year to one.com and that includes my domain name fightingdebt.co.uk and also includes the hosting and 100 emails which all end in the domain site name eg admin@fightingdebt.co.uk All the mail from there goes into my outlook inbox
So far Ive not had any problems and their main help is through emails or a lve help which I used mainly when firs setting out.0 -
123reg is great for email , you can start with 10 then increase as you wish at no extra cost ie., mail@ , terry@ , postbox@ , if too much spam, just delete email address0

If it helps, (and you wanted POP3 mailboxes and hosting - in addition to a domain), I just had a promo email from 123-reg, they have a new "hosting for a quid" offer, £1 per month, (for 1st 6 months) you get 500Mb webspace, 35 POP3 mailboxes, webmail, email forwarding. http://www.123-reg.co.uk/web-hosting/
If you just want a domain with e-mail forwarding as described above they charge £2.79 per year for a .co.uk - and the control panel is very simple to use, if you wanted POP3 mail boxes they are extra.0 -
TerryTibbs wrote: »Do you mean that just having a domain name (and not giving out any email addresses) will be enough to generate a deluge of spam? The main reason I want to do this is so that I can have a unique email per contact. So for example I'd have MSE@terrytibbs.co.uk for my moneysavingexpert account. Now were moneysavingexpert be unscrupulous enough to sell my email to spammers, I would know who was responsible and simply block the address (just using MSE as an example).
Initially I need email hosting only. I may need web hosting somewhere down the line though.
Many thanks,

That is a great idea - it is what I do too. I have not had one single spam message.
In addition I have them all forward to my Gmail account where a label is automatically applied depending on the 'to' address - the same could be achieved with folders in an email client.
Possibly make your individual addresses a tad more complex though - instead of MSE@yourdomain.com try something like 0001_MSE@yourdomain.com and 0002_tesco@yourdomain.com etc - it is just less guessable as you need a name and a random number

I'd recommend Google Mail for your domain (http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/index.html)
If your domain name registrar gives you good access to the host record (adding / editing MX records in particular, 123-reg certainly do) then it's really easy to setup.
You get unlimited addresses, each with 7GB of storage available, GMail's fabulous spam-filtering, you can access the mail through POP or IMAP, so you can continue to use your preferred email client rather than Google's web-based interface (which I like, but other folks don't seem to ...) and you get the excellent integration with Google calendar and Google docs.
All for nothing, which ain't bad."In all affairs it's a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted." - Bertrand Russell0 -
I'd agree on using 1and1. They are currently charging 99p for the first year of a .co.uk domain.
I use them and have quite a few e-mail addresses setup and it's easy to use and have webmail so you can access your e-mail when not at home. Worth a look if nothing else.
P.S. terrytibbs.co.uk has already gone but terrytibbs.biz still seems to be available!0 -
I'm trying to do the same thing using Google Apps (I signed up using the link in heggied's post).
Do I have to create a new user account for each email address? It says I can only have 50 user accounts.
Also I cant sign in to my email account using Google Account even though I successfully signed up for Google Account.
Thanks in advance.0 -

I think you actually need to create the email address on your hosting package before trying to link to t using Google Mail. In any case, I find it easier to set it up through my hosting package and then connect using Outlook (or Mail if on Mac). Your hosting company should provide a step-by-step guide if you get stuck0
