Bridesmaids Dresses

Evening All,

I have a dilemma - I have 5 BMs all different shapes and sizes and different colourings, and trying to keep them all happy is so bloody hard!!! I am getting BM dresses from Landy and have emailed them all a shortlist of piccies asking for their opinions and which ones they like, and of course they all have different opinions: "i'm too tall/short for that dress" and "my boobs are too big/small for that dress" and "my tummy/bum is too fat for that dress"!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no perfect dress that is going to suit them all, so I think I'm just going to have to go with the most sensible option - bin bags....no I'm only joking lol.

What can I do/say to them?? Please help :D

  • Do you want them to all have identical dresses?

If not could you get Landy to make them all out of the same fabric so they all co-ordinate and get the dress they prefer?

No, I do want them all dressed up like quintruplets (is that the word  lol).

I did think about having different designs/styles but I like the uniform approach :)
  • Hmmmm can you make a choice based on their preferences?

Have you picked your dress - you might be better picking something that co-ordinates with it - or use it as an excuse to pick your favourite ;)

Well, the plan was to ask them to name their 2 favourites, and the one with the most votes wins. But of course they all chose different dresses lol!

I have chosen my dress, and the BM dresses that I have shortlisted, will complement mine. I've already had to change the colour of BM dresses, although I do now really like the new colour, it's just the style that I'm flummoxed (sp?) on!

I really lke the halter neck styles as these tend to flatter most shapes. And it would be a long a-line style. But my CB (who wanted strapless) now says that she doesn't think halter neck will be suitable for the biggest BM (size 18). I really do have to bite my tounge at times lol. Is that awful??

Make a BM Dresses FA Cup.

Start out with, say, 8 dresses, and pair them up.

    AvB
    CvD
    EvF
    GvH

and get everyone to vote their preference out of each pair. Then you can have the semi final:
    (say)
    AvD
    FvG

then the final two and the one with the most votes wins.

You can always stack the deck a bit so your favourite two won't face off till the final ;)

  • Whose day is it? lol.

You prefer the halter neck - do you think it will suit them all? Which style did your biggest bridesmaid pick?

If it was me I'd cut out CB choice just for her whingeing :rotfl:.

Of course it is your day and you should pick exactly which dress you want them to wear.
However i was a bridesmaid for my sister last year & I am not just overweight but very oddly proportioned the other bridesmaids were "normal".
Every style the others tried on looked fab but Just finding a style that i could wear a decent bra with was a nightmare.
I left one shop in tears as the assistant was vile to me.
Thankfully my sis (star that she is) told her to get knotted & we went somewhere & the lady was nice, kind & helpful.
She eventually chose separates (bustier & skirt) that looked like a dress.
It suited all of us & everything went off wonderfully, But i felt so guilty that at one point i offered to pull out to save her money & hassle.

What i'm trying to get at is, Have any of them got serious "problems" they need addressing or are just being awkward?

"problems" need addressing, Awkwardness does not.

    Thanks Guys :D

SugarSpun - I like that idea. I have about 6 on the shortlist, so that is a good way to get the numbers down

Paddingtondoo - I spoke to the "biggest" bride this evening, and she really couldn't give a flying fancy what she wears as long as I'm happy. Bless her. She really liked the halterneck that was my favourite and said that she wouldn't have a problem wearing it. CB whingeing :rotfl:

Joey-lou - None of the BMs have a "problem" per se. To be honest, it is only really the CB being "awkward" - but I do love her. I know that she is only trying to help. Anyway she's off on holiday for the next week, so the decision may have to be made whilst shes away. Shame...lol
  • Hi,

i am planning a wedding where the bride has 7 bridesmaids, all shapes and sizes.

she picked the colour for them which is dark red and gave them the choice of styles , 2 are wearing halter necks, 2 strapless, 2 spaghetti straps and one with thicker straps but all the dresses are the same colour and they have a sash to compliment the brides dress.
they all went for a fitting last week and the different style looked great together.

it is your day and you should pick the colours ect.. if they dont like it or are moaning let them know how you feel. you are in charge.

    i hope this helps
