in Credit cards
I am 28 and trying to get my first credit card. I have never had any loans or debts. I have already been turned down by Nationwide and even for a Barclay initial card. Not sure who to apply to next, or if it is a total lost cause?
My income is roughly £8000. Anyone out there have any advice?
Many thanks

Have you checked your credit file in case there is some issue you do not know about.
Costs about £3 from the likes of Equifax etc.I authorise Equifax to charge my Credit/Debit Card the fee of £2.00 -(sterling) required for this service. I understand and agree that my account will be charged only if the current mailing address I provide below matches the address listed on my Equifax file. I also understand that for security reasons the report will be mailed, and not provided via e-mail.

It may be because you have no history of credit, I know catch 220 -

Silly as it may seem, but you're probably getting turned down because you've never had a card/loans before. Lenders like to see a history of payments, that way they can assess the risk you'll be to them. Without that history you are classed as very risky.
What won't help either is too many applications in a short time as it sends a warning to companies that you may seem desperate.
For a first card it is generally accepted that you should try your own bank first as they already have a relationship/history with you. Have you tried them ? Have you asked what you have to do with them to get a card ?0 -
Are you on the electoral roll? I second the advise of trying your own bank first.0

Yes I am on electoral roll. I didn't approach my bank first as they had a minimum income of £10,000 requirement. Feel like giving up, but I really want to boost my obviously rubbish credit rating!0

You could try Vanquis, Halifax Standard or CapOne Classic. These have relatively high APRs so it is wise to pay them off in full each month. Be careful not to apply for too many things in a short period of time as that dents your credit score.0

Who is your bank? They may have a min income publicised on their website, I know the bank I work for does. BUT if you have good acct. conduct (I mean no unauthorised borrowing and absolutely NO charges) you may still be eligible
Give them a ring and try it.
I agee, I am on state benefit and my bank would let me have a credit card and infact did but when I had it I phoned up and canceled it as I wanted a chip and signature credit card to go with my debit card and they would not give me one even though all through the process I made it clear that was the only reason I wanted the card.
I do have three others and a credit rating of 546.0
