Hopefully anyone who knows anything about vars can help.
I want to buy a car off autotrader, one which is labelled vauxhall corsa and has a vauxhall badge. However when i did a vehicle check, it lists the car as an Opel make and then has no other information about it, other than it is 5-ddor.
I dont want to miss out on a good buy, so did research where i have found that vauchall cars are branded as opel cars around the rest of Europe. There are even other cars on autotrader which are Opel, but they are stated as being so and have different badges to Vauxhall. So the question is what is the brand likely to be?

A lot of corsa's were made in Spain and came out with either Vauxhall or Opel badges depending on the market. Where did you do the vehicle check ? Go to the DVLA website and put in the reg no and make and see what it says. Try both Vx an Opel. Also try askmid.com which will give you the make and model.0

Vauxhall and Opel are two brands of General Motors. Opel is generally the brand sold on the continent and Vauxhall is exclusively sold in Britain.
Opels are also sold in Ireland in right hand drive.0 -

Whatever you decide you like the best. It's all the same company. All the parts are the same. It's actually all General Motors when it comes down to it.
It's actually more a case of Opel cars are branded as Vauxhall in the UK.0 -
Or some snidy person has took the Opel badges off and replaced them with Vauchall ones to get a better price...
Motor Point recently got heavily fined for doing this...!0 -
Its a lot of hassle to ensure all opel badges are eradicated - 4 wheel trims, badge for stering wheel, grille and boot. On a used car the cost is prohibitive. You want to look at the original v5 to see what is stated as the manufacturer.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -
If it's a righthand drive then it will be an import from Ireland, where cars were generally cheaper. Probably someone has just changed the badge over.
The specs may/will be different to UK specs. For example, the new Mondeo is available with a 1.6 engine in Ireland but not in the UK.
So check the specs carefully, you should pay less than a vuaxhall badged vehicle but will get less when you sell it as well.0 -
Are you buying the car with some warranty left? Vauxhalls generally have 3 year warranties (1st year manufacturer and 2nd and 3rd year are a UK dealer scheme). Opels imported into this country will probably have the standard European 2 year warranty.
Loads of Opels are imported from RHD markets abroad, not exclusively Eire, but from Cyprus. The man without a signature.0 -
Ditto. Check the sterring wheel as the Air Bag is too expensive to replace merely to remove the Opel logo.0

I'd suggest you have this the wrong way round and Opel cars are branded as Vauxhall in the UK. They're even Holden in Australia! (sorry Conor didn't spot this in your post!)
I have a Meriva and it's covered in Opel labels, stickers etc. in spite of being a "Vauxhall". Also stuff with both German and English written together. There's even some sort of production sheet, probably from when it was built, with the spare wheel, the only identifying print being all Opel.
If you go to look at the car check what Smi1er has suggested along with the plastic cover on top of the engine. As has been stated, changing all the badges and other bits is surely too much hassle and expense.0
