Should I be worried that my local Crown PO is shut today (virtually barricaded) due to 'audit', lots of people in suits and worried looking staff, no access to any PO counter and no euros :eek: for my holiday tomorrow!

i would say yes
the cuts have hit my offices delivery area too
more po's earmarked for 'consultation' on closure
in RM speak thats near 100% for closure

i wont say how my office is going but im just in from a shift that started at 11.30 last night
i'll be back in at 11pm this evening :rolleyes:

Oh dear, this is a fairly new Crown PO as well, the last one we had in the main town was shut after all sorts of rumours about 'irregularities'. It isn't the one I use regularly but it is a useful one if I have a lot of large letters as they interpret the rules differently and allow large letters to be anything that passes through the big slot, whereas my sub PO say it mustn't touch the sides otherwise it is a package.

i had a giggle today,i shouldnt but it brightened a nightmare day
i was sorting the underpaid(and thus charged) items
i came across a load of items for the same place
a load of letters for the 'save goldenacre post office appeal'
all sent without stamps!!

Seven post offices in Devon which were the subject of further review are all to be closed according to Post Office Ltd.

Four of the seven are to be replaced by outreach services and of the remaining three, the Millwey Rise post office which is still to close, could see a new post office at the same location but Post Office Ltd warned that:

"Customers should note that this is dependent on contractual agreement and it may not be possible for any alternative outlet to be established. Also, as such a service will be provided on a trial basis, Post Office Ltd will be looking at its performance and usage to determine whether it should remain in the longer term, and therefore it may not be established permanently."

Speaking to the North Devon Gazette, MP for Torridge and West Devon, Geoffrey Cox blasted Post Office Ltd's decision:

"I am stunned by this decision. Those two offices had particularly powerful cases, even on the Post Office's own criteria, as Postwatch acknowledged in pressing for a review. It is patently clear now that the fate of the many elderly and vulnerable people who depend on these crucial services in isolated rural communities, or any of the other points the consultation purported to consider, simply did not count in the reckonings of the Post Office Ltd. or of the Government, whose meaningless 'access conditions' gave it the green light to wield the axe where it chose."

Tim Nicholls, Post Office Ltd’s Network Development Manager for Devon said: ""We appreciate that any decision to close a Post Office® branch will be unpopular. Nevertheless, Post Office Ltd has to make decisions to close branches in order to put the Network on a more stable footing for the future and achieve this in a way which best meets the demands and concerns of its customers."


The three branches to close are:

Queen St, 37-39 Queen Street, Exeter EX4 3SR Offwell

The Village Shop & PO, The Recreation Ground, Offwell, Honiton EX14 9SB

Millwey Rise, 22-23 First Avenue, Axminster EX13 5EX


The following four branches are to be replaced by outreach services:.

Bridestowe, Okehampton EX20 4EG

Shebbear, Southview, Shebbear, Beaworthy EX21 5RU

Lustleigh, Newton Abbot TQ13 9TA

Widecombe In The Moor, Newton Abbot TQ13 7TB
