Update my ID3's tags

I'm looking to (finally) sort out all of my ID3 tags on my MP3 collection (625 albums!)

I'm looking for an easy, free and quick programme that will sort them all out for me - can it be done automatically, by taking info from file name? Can I amend one field, such as artist, and it take effect throughout the folder?

Any ideas?

I've always used tagandrename for mine. It can get the info automatically from cddb but only one album at a time last time I knew. I have mine sorted by artist/album/track.mp3 so it's easy enough for me.

You can batch edit tags in t&r as well like you're asking, yep. Select an album, and edit the album and artist tags on all at the same time.

I used to use "The Godfather" for this - It can take the mp3's file name, or parts thereof, and folder / subfolders, and put this info. in the ID3 tag.

Takes a bit of learning how to navigate, but given that you have been able to figure out what you want to do and vaguely how to do it, you'd be able to pick it up pretty quick.
