Is This Too Much?

Without wanting to divulge too much to protect the young lady in particular, I have applied for a 'Live In Support Worker' job with a young (end teenage years) lady who has mild behavioural problems as a result of an accident although she is fully able bodied.

It comprises of free accomodation and all bills paid in a 2 bedroom flat with shared facilities and a double bedroom.

"We require someone with a lot of patience to act as a role model and coach to our client. No prior experience is required; however an interest in the care sector would be an advantage. You will be paid for approx 2 hours per day, plus free accommodation and bills. This would be an ideal opportunity for a responsible student or similar to gain some excellent experience within Support Work."

I have 11 hours of 'In The Classroom' study time and 400 placement hours throughout the year. To me it sounds ideal as I am a very people type person and relish the responsibility - however my mum has pointed out how much responsibility it could be and a few more of the downfalls.

I'm prepared for hard work - and have applied and asked for some more information and what would be involved but I'm also wondering if anyone has any similar experience?

Thanks :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
A mate used to do this and had great fun and the pair of them used to go from meals out to cinema to nightclub to holidays and all free for her, but not sure if you can combine it with study as she may not be able to be left.

Why not find out more details as doesn't cost anything, if you get on with the pesron it would be great fun!
  • I would suggest it would be Ok for you, especially as the advert actually states suitable for a student. You would be fulfilling the job description as role model by doing your studies around the said lady; but be prepared to be interupted a lot - it does say you will need patience!
I think you have done the best thing applying for more info.

    Thanks guys :)

It was on the colleges website and was placed by a company called Uni Temps too so it seems pretty study-friendly.

The young lady in question attends the college too.

A bit of an update - they were specifically looking for a student :) I've passed two 'interviews' one with the Uni Temps lady and another with her case worker - both over the phone and I'm meeting her caseworker tomorrow.

The more I hear about it the better it sounds and I'm really looking forward to getting to know her if I'm successful :) Fingers crossed it all works out!
