Pay £100 to get MBNA Credit card??

Hi,

My gf applied for a MBNA card with 14.9% APR, but was refused.
However, MBNA said that they could give her the 19.9 % APR card with a credit limit of £500, but she needs to send them a cheque or postal order for £100.with the paperwork.

The reason being that she has not enough credit history on her file, so this £100 would be some kind of collateral...
It also didn't sound that she would be getting it back at any point.

Has anybody ever heard of this?
Would sending MBNA the £100 garantuee her to be accepted for this card with £500 limit?
And is it just a cost, or would she be getting it back, say after 6 months of paying her monthly payment?

Thanks for the advise!

  • a few of us on the sub prime credit board have just got this. the £100 is an advance payment and she will get it back. weve been told different amount of time anywhere between 3 and 6 months. if she has been offered this card with the £100 then she has been accepted and will get it once £100 cleared.

its sort of their way of saying we will give you a chance, im pleased to have been given the opportunity to prove myself

    hope that helps.

also a few of us were also told that after so many months of good handling of account they would review it, and might be eligible for better card... better apr, higher limit
