Talk Talk Problems!

I have home phone and broadband with TalkTalk. Since Saturday there has been a problem with the phone. The broadband works fine but there is no dial tone when I lift the handset, and when people try to call us they get connected to voicemail immediately.
I rang TT about this on Saturday morning (in queue for 15 mins, calling 0870 from my mobile) and they asked me to try various things (plug phone straight into socket, rather than via microfilter; try a different handset etc.) I had already done all this and no joy. They said they'd look into it and call me back within 48hrs. It is now Wednesday and no-one has called back. I tried ringing them just now but gave up after holding for 19 mins (false economy??) again from my mobile at great expense.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem recently? Does anyone know how long it takes to resolve or what the problem is? The TalkTalk recorded message suggested there was some kind of issue which was causing a backlog of faults reported.
