hi there,
Does anyone know if it makes a difference who claims for housing benefit and council tax benefit?
I am asking as when i lived at my partners property he claimed under his name as he was the tenant now we are living in my property and i am claiming the benefit in my name as i am the tenant here, although my salary and my partners IB have not changed we were getting more help when he claimed compared to the help we get now while i am claiming for us in my name.
Is this because he is claiming IB? Or have they made a mistake in their calculations?
Thanks for your time

It depends upon the amount of rent you have to pay as well as your income.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Or perhaps you've moved from HB to LHA?0

Thanks for taking the time to reply much appreciated.
Well the rent is more now, as was in a flat and now in a house
Sorry i am not aware of LHA?0 -
LHA is Local Housing Allowance, which is the new type of HB. Claimants are allocated a certain eligible amount (according to area and how many people live in the property), and then this amount is tapered according to your income. With HB, the eligible amount varied according to whether the property was too big or not, the area, and also the condition of the property.
When did your claim change? xGone ... or have I?0
