Switching Supplier

Hi Martin & Everyone....First post for me, so here gos..First off HELLO All.--

At this very moment I am with SWALEC (Swansea) n I pay DD monthly of £26 & £30 standard....(in Credit at moment)
12 days ago I think I did something crazy LOL I singd up for nPower at £21 & £21 DD monthly standard...Both of them as far as I know will say at end of 6 months if you are in Debit or Credit with money...

Seeing as nPower just put their prices up Shockingly! Should I stay with SWALEC or is nPower ok or is there a Better deal out there....
I got until tomorrow to cancell the nPower contract..
I'm 61 in 2 weeks n on permanent sick with early Forces pension, so I don't get that much n at the moment my Head is Above the Water..lol . Would like to stay there....So any Help would be Greatly Appreciated...
Thanks.
Dennis.

  • Mmmmmm! 33 views..You not all stumped on this un are you ?
Would it be in my Best Interests to stay with SWALEC at this moment in time...With my last Bill 26 Oct 2007 to 23 April 2008 (yep, every 6 months unfortunatly) I had £51.98 in CREDIT for Gas + £51.11 in CREDIT for Elec.,
On my own n don't use much when weather is OKish..(Don't Cook much here at moment, as I cook for Elderly 90 year old dad at his home)..
On Domestic Standard Tariff for Elec + General Saver for Gas..
Any Input on this to Help me Decide would be Greatfull Recieved..
Tomorrow, Thursday, is DEADLINE for Cancelling with nPower....
    THANKS
  • I think I'm answering All my own Questions here----
I entered my exact Yearly dual payments, then I doubled it, then I thirded (whatever) and as far as I can see "British Gas" works out cheepest with Click Energy 5 (online account paperless billing) Tremendous saveing for me..
How does online account paperless billing, Work?????
But I don't know if this reflects the recent Energy Price Rises..
Anyone gona pop in here n give us a clue...

Hi Coper....Do you know your annual consumption in kwh's. National average is 20,000 gas and over 3000 kwh for electric.
If low/medium go with Ebico, and Click 5 otherwise.
You are also eligible for Winter Fuel allowance £250 this year.
  • Hi Ken68---Thank you for replying-Appreciated my friend.
Not got a clue on the annual consumption I'm afraid....Working out kilowats n therms whatever they are, confuses me...Simple maths is ok..LOL
I'm a Low user anyway as I'm on my own n only put Hot Water on (Gas)when needed..GAS-Oct 07 to Apr 08 (every 6 months) is Total metric units used = 533.81 co mtrs
Units converted to kilowatt hours = 5753.28kWh
    Says nothing on Elec.,
I am in Credit of £51 elec + £51 gas
July to Oct 2007 I was also in credit...BUT, we had a pretty good winter...When it's COLD I use my central Heating more...
I don't cook much at home at moment as I cook my elderly dads food every day and have my meals there as well....That SAVES me Huge amounts at moment...
I have Cancelled with nPower and am thinking of going back to British Gas as when I fill the forms in I enter the exact amount I've paid plus I do it again with double that amount n they all say BG on "click energy 5 online account paperless billing". Looks like I can Save Loads on that...
Just want to make sure I don't make Huge Misstake by changeing over..
Would it be Best if I wait for next Bill, which is due in Oct..
I'm always Surprised when I get my Bills as my Gas is always costing more than my Electric....Only thing on here permanent is my PILOT Light on gas fire, except when I put Hot Water on 3x a week..Two PCs on Every Day for long hours + Printers n hard drives n elec is less..
Anyway, some advice will be greatly recieved...THANKS

P.S that £250 Winter Fuel allowance sounds GOOD..Cheers.

I've been thinking about that Click 5 thing meself (already done a couple of posts about it).So sorry if you have already read this, BUT,it may go up soonish,BUT you may still save abit, even after it goes up,sometime in the next month I'd guess.Hope this helps.

PS,re the winter allowance, don't for get you may have to claim it,the first time(you can do it online,I think) and I THINK the deadline for this winter is October'ish,so get that claim in soon,it will be my turn,NEXT Autumn !!!

Low users lose out on a tiered system, being on the higher rate a lot of the time.
Ebico charge one price, simple system, but due to put up their prices soon.
They are part of Southern Energy group, as are Swalec.
Wait until Oct , and is there an annual discount ??
Find your annual kwh consumption somehow, ask your provider to guestimate . Then run it thru Energyhelpline, would be surprised if Ebico wasn't top of the list, with Click 5 not far behind. If going to Click 5, join Quidco first, about £60 cashback on offer.
    No cashbacks for joining Ebico.
  • Thank You Both...Appreciated lots.

I had my Winter Allowance last year so I don't think I need to claim this year as it should be automatic....If I don't get it, clog ya ears up cause you'll hear my shout from Wales to Scotland...LOL

That's what i decided to do this morning Ken...Wait for my next Bill in October n wait and make sure Every Utility Company has put up their Prices.
    Click 5 n join Quidco I'll do..Thanks.

Would it Not be Easier if Everyone in UK Switched OFF their GAS for a few days to send a message that enough is enough...Then follow with the Electric...I'm sure it can be done...It would make them sit up n think.
We gota do it on same day n date..Same with Petrol/Diesol, leave vehicles home for 3 days, that's all it'll take to make them drop prices..
Great site this n Thanks for Helping...

Ebico are not part of the Scottish and Southern Family.Unlike Scottish and Southern they are a not-for-profit company.

Scottish and Southern are only their supply partner.

You could be right Bufflow, but if supplied by Southern Energy and prices are benchmarked then they are in bed together. Part of...partners.
    And not-for-profit means nowt.
Just a phrase acceptable to potential customers, same with branded names like energy re-sellers Sainsbury and Tesco.
  • So if it's a 'not for profit company' how do they survive!!!!
I worked for a non profit company once, n they made HUGE profits....so that's a missnomar <(spelling) in it.
