Anyone here adopted a baby

I'm thinking, if I can't conceive, about adopting a baby... possibly one from China, as it seems to be doing something charitable too.

Does anyone here have any experience of this (or adoption in the UK).

Thanks.

  • Plenty of kids in the UK need adopting - why look at China? It's much more difficult to adopt from abroad - you need to go through the same process as if you were adopting from the UK, and then more on top of that. You're also looking at costs of around £10,000 to adopt from China. No fees to pay if adopting from the UK.

My aunt and uncle are currently adopting from China. So far it has been a very lengthy legal process, and 3 years on they are still waiting for the call to go to China and collect their child!

It makes me so angry when celebrities just seem to be able to use their power, status and money to practically buy themselves an adopted child

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    .

If you go down this road then don't say this sortof thing to the social workers; it'll go down like a lead balloon!

There are very few babies available for adoption in the UK but lots of toddlers and older who need homes.

I think a lot of those celebs are american - the US system is very different to the UK system, ours is a lot more stringent).
  • I'd love to adopt or foster when my kids are grown up. Doubt we will even be considered. Good luck.

  • We havent adopted a baby, we have two children 4 and 2, been with our family just over a month. Its a very long process and its taken us almost 2 years to have the family we so wanted. Even now it doesnt seem real at times. Its the best thing but also the hardest thing we have ever done. If you do decided to proceed be prepared for lots of intrusion in your life, even now we get it, you are public property when you adopt and its hard for people to respect privacy sometimes.

  • I haven't adopted a baby, but I am myself adopted, so would be happy to answer any questions that you might have from that point of view! :)
