Goth Box

Hello all,

I want to make my granddaughter a gift box for her 16th birthday.
A Goth Box to be precise!!! Well actually, she informs me she is not a goth but an "emo", which apparently stands for "emotional". In other words, softer and not as dark as a Goth.

Anyway, have found a great gift box -glossy black with white skull and crossbows, but what to put in it? I thought maybe a belt, bracelet, t-shirt ???

Any ideas please????:confused::confused::confused:

Black eyeliner (a liquid and a pencil might be good), an iTunes/music voucher, nail varnish in some dark or jewel colours, a spiky belt, if you're crafty make a sock monkey in black and red ...

You could try ebay. They have all sorts on there.

If you put Emo into the search it brings up lots and lots of things. YOu could pick a specific category to look through. xxx

    Hi!
I was what I would guess most people would call goth a few years back. Anything striped with black is popular such as black and white, black and red. Skull and crossbones is good as is broken hearts for emos. Stars are popular as well.

  • Pewter/silver/black enamel jewellery might be good - I'm not too sure about Emos, but as a (semi-lapsed) goth I know I'd always be happy with something black and silver :)

And personally I love some of the kitsch emo stuff that turns up on ebay - bottlecap pendants and keyrings, altered Miffy and Hello Kitty etc :)

By the way - nice to see a grandma who supports her alternative grandchild - when I was that age, the blacker I went, the more girly the presents became from one of mine - think she was trying to convert me, lol :D

  • What about some stripey knee high socks (in red and black or pink and black would be good)? Studded belts are also popular (either spikey or studded with stars). Black sweat bands seem to be popular and lots of bracelets (if you've got a bead shop near you you could buy some chunky star shaped beads and make her a few bracelets).

You could get her a copy of this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nothing-Feels-Good-Punk-Teenagers/dp/0312308639/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1220440525&sr=8-1 to put into the box to teach her where 'emo' music today originated from as most kids (and adults!) don't know.

I'd stear clear of anything with band names written on unless you know what bands she likes.

Go to Claire's accessories. It's emo heaven. aim for stripy socks/armwarmers, studded bracelets, dice jewllery, dark make up. An Emo is like a slightly darker and scruffier New Romantic.

  • my daughter went through a big emo phase awhile back and she loved anything black!! ( brands to look out for are Death Kitty, Emily Strange, anything with Roman Dirges' Lenore characters on, as said before the canibalised Hello Kitty/Pucca/Miffy stuff, Lowlife, Vans etc ) Studded belts are popular and I'm sure she would love a grandma who bought her a proper Lowlife one.
Maybe buy some beads as said before, some kitsch charms and let her make her own jewellery.
Does she have piercings? colour her hair?
definitley a HMV or Itunes voucher( emo's love thier music).
    A subscrition to Kerrang magazine?
Bright coloured tights, net tutu skirts, black/neon nail polish, or a book on japanese street fashion( my daughter loved looking at all the photo's and getting ideas from them.

    hope that helps :).
