advent laptop volume

I can't seem to get the volume on my lappy loud enough to watch dvds.It is on maximum and I have to strain to hear it.Any ideas?

Plug in some external speakers... erm... most laptops are kinda quiet...

Where is it on maximum? It might be able to go a bit higher... make sure it's set to maximum on the lappy itself AND the system mixer.
Change laptop volume by holding fn + either f4 or f5 (or maybe another - depends on exact model, there should be a little illustration on each of the "F" keys that makes it clear.)
Change system mixer volume by, in windows XP, going start > Settings> control panel > sounds and audio devices > max out that volume slider, click advanced, then max out all the other sliders (especially "Wave")Russia is HERE0
