Chaning insurance

This might be the wrong place to post and may also be a really stupid question but i'm not sure.
I want to change my insurances and find cheaper quotes. Can i change insurance companies and policies mid way through the year? I pay monthly direct debit.
Thanks
Charlie

Also for car (and home  ) you will lose the NCB you have built up so far this policy year. If you have full NCB on your car it doesn't matter so much but if you only have a year or two you might want to change insurers at renewal.
You have to weigh the cost of cancelling against the saving you might make by switching.

If the insurance contract is annual, you are best usually waiting until renewal. The fact you pay monthly doesn't necessarily mean you pay as you go on a monthly basis. Things like car and house are annual contracts.
