Hi
I want to get my mother Sky+ and have been put off by the cost ( been quoted £250 'cos she just has the basic sky package, no telephone, no broadband etc). I've seen a second hand sky+ box for sale and was wondering can it just be plugged in and play , as the saying goes ?
Will my mum have to pay the £10 per month for whatever the £10 buys with sky ? What limitations are there by doing it this way ? Questions , questions, questions....can anyone help ?
TIA

You could buy a S/H box, i did. Buy a twin LNB dish and plug it in. You then have two options. 1. Dont subscribe to any package but pay £10 per mouth to have the sky+ features or 2. Subscribe to the cheapest package, and sky do not charge for sky+ anymore0

Sky waived the £10 fee a while back on the condition that you subscribe to one of their packages.
It makes sense to subscribe, as there's no point in giving Sky £10pm just for the ability to record tv.
You can buy standalone boxes that can pause/record tv etc that are not linked to Sky. These would cost more to buy, but would offer no other channels. They wouldn't come with a subscription fee though.John
