I think I've upset British Gas.....

Last weekend I called up to pay my bill, bill was addressed the 'The Occupier' as we had not long moved in so got all of those details updated at the same time as paying.
I had however already sorted out switching to SP but had not told them this.
2 days later, got a call from BG asking me why I was switching and said 'prices rises, hubby arranged it' and they asked if I wanted to stay with them and then cap at todays rates. I said no as it was too late to 'cool off'.
3 days later I got 2 letters from BG, one was the 'Welcome' letter from the day I had given them my details addressed to Mr & Mrs x. The other was my 'Final Bill' because I was leaving..... addressed to 'The Occupier'. SP have not even 'switched' us yet.

The final bill to the occupier is for the time before you moved in. You'll recieve a final bill in your name after the switch has completed.0

No, it is definately for us, it has our current meter reading on from the last bill!!0

In which case instead of opening an account for the day you moved in, they've opened one for just after the last occupier bill.You'll still get a final bill in your name when the switch goes through.0

blue_monkey, check everything they send you very carefully. I'm not suggesting that all BG staff are incompetent because maybe I've just been incredibly unlucky in my dealings with them but, again, speaking from personal experience I would rate their call centre staff's competence below even 3 mobiles'. :eek:Call me Carmine....

It states 'Final Bill' and then goes on to state that they have sent us this bill because we have changed supplier. I can easily pay SP for the gas I use, they are cheaper anyway so no difference to me, I'll just give them the meter reading I have finalised with BG.0

OK, didn't catch that it was for a change of supplier (you get a final bill when you move out too).
I expect that if the change date is soon the system has jumped the gun. You might still get that other bill though as BG will still supply you until the actual change date.0
